Dear Burney Baptist Family:
Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
Friends, the information in the media about COVID-19 is hitting us hard and fast:
• The World Health Organization has declared it a pandemic.
• The goal of “social distancing” is to “flatten the curve” and reduce the spikes in infection requiring emergency health care access in order to not overload our healthcare system.
• Schools in our area are closing.
• Public libraries, museums, theaters, national sporting events, etc. are closing or cancelled.
• Those who are ill or have been exposed are asked to self-quarantine.
• High risk groups: 60 years and older and those with pre-existing health conditions.
The leadership of Burney Baptist decided the best action for church service until April 7, 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, specifically the guidelines set forth by the CDC, and by discerning the most faithful way for us to proceed will be to cancel service. We are the church, and while we are not panicking over this pandemic, we are striving to be responsible in caring for our members, our neighbors, and the many people who enter our doors throughout the week.
We will continue to be the church. While it is strange to think we won’t be worshiping together this offers us an opportunity to connect with each other via email, phone, Facebook, etc.
We will upload a link of Pastor Jan’s weekly sermon to encourage and lead us in the Word.
Please pray about ways that you can continue being the hands and feet of Christ during this time of “social distancing.”
Above all else, beloved children of God, take heart in knowing that “We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28). We will get through this with God’s help!
I leave you with these words from Lamentations 3:22-23:
“Because of the LORD’s great love
we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.”
God is faithful! Thanks be to God!
